Front Desk Admin

My name is Dehga Scott and I am Tłı̨chǫ Dene from Yellowknife, NWT.

I am a mother of three children and one angel, and come from a long line of strong leaders including my grandparents, the late Joe Suzie and Julie Mackenzie of Behchoko, and my great-grandmother, a traditional midwife who served the Tłı̨chǫ Territory.

I was interested in birth work from a young age and originally wanted to become a midwife, however, life put me on a different path.

While working in various jobs in the medical field,

I witnessed gaps in the healthcare system, and

set out to understand why Indigenous people were required to leave their remote communities to give birth, without support from family and friends and disconnected from their culture and

traditions.

I saw an opening to foster change

in the birth community, and helped create an

Indigenous Birthworkers Training Program to

revitalize traditional birthing practices.

I am an NDN Collective Fellowship Recipient, a Spirit Aligned Legacy Leaders Fellow, and currently pursuing a degree in Indigenous Governance at Yukon University. I am passionate about revitalizing Indigenous birth practices, and look forward to meeting you and building kinship to support you during this sacred time on your family's journey.
